mcreps@heraldt.comA stolen truck was found at the bottom of Lake Monroe today after someone noticed tire tracks leading into the frozen water.
DNR spokeswoman Angela Goldman said police were informed of the tire tracks and break in the water at about 9 a.m. today at the Moores Creek Ramp. The ramp is on the west side of the lake just off Handy Road.
When authorities arrived on the scene, tire tracks were visible and it was unclear if anyone was inside.
Rescue crews including the dive team were called out. A search of the truck found no one inside.
The truck was stolen sometime Monday night from Showplace 12, west, 2929 W. Third St., according to a Bloomington Police report. According to Sgt. Jeff Canada, a couple went to the movies just before 7 p.m. Upon leaving the theater, they noticed their 2007 GMC Sierra was missing.
Officer Jim Batcho reviewed surveillance tape from the theater parking lot, but the truck was parked in a spot not visible to the camera.
Goldman said the truck will stay at the bottom of the lake until the lake thaws, and it is safer to remove it.
