OK. I've found a problem with the boat. I can't seem to get off of it.

On 8/1 I had friends in for the day. I picked them up at Harden Ridge at 9:15 and dropped them off at about 9:30 that night.

3 ladies and 5 little girls. We did some slow speed tubing (at first) but the girls had me doing high speed donuts in no time. Never lost a rider. Did some swimming and ate well. caught a couple little fish, the girls had  a blast.

We all had a blast.

It is amazing how different the lake looks at night though. This was my first after-dark cruise and it was really cool. Fortunately the marina is well lit and easy to find but the only reason we found Harden Ridge again is due to the map on my GPS.

Dropped them off and motored back over to the slip.  My daughter fell asleep on the bench so I let her sleep while I cleaned and covered the boat. Figured I'd have to carry her up to the truck.

Rained to beat the band for about 15 minutes there. She was still asleep so I just enjoyed the ambience of the dock.

It's just hard to get off the boat. We got off the dock at about 11:00PM

Had some more frinds out on the 8th. A group of young adults from my church. They rented a pontoon to swim off and we used my pontoon to pull the tubes. Final tally was John O - 8, Tube riders 2. I took it easy on them as the day got late. (And I didn't include the ladies in the count.)  Managed to flip my three rider sit in tube. It's amazing that something that big can get airborne. And it's not designed to fly either!!

Had to drop them off at 6:46pm so I went and achored for a while so the lifejackets and all could dry out a bit more.  It's just too early to put the boat away at 6:45. Got off the water at about 9:00.

Another  great day on the lake.

If you happen to see a 24' pontoon with two blue biminis flying over the lake, stop me and say howdy.  (I'm sure most of you can catch me. I only do about 35MPH Grin)

It's just too hard to get off the boat.

Have a great time everyone. I'll be out again on Friday. Fishing mostly. Trying to find some crappie or big bluegill. Anyone have any hints on where I should look?

Figured I'd just add to this thread rather than start a new one.

Went out Friday all day. Couldn't find anyone to come play with me so I went alone.

Did some fishing, caught nothing though. everyone I talked to had the same luck. The risen waters must have put the fish off.

Swam a bit, the water was perfect. 84 degrees with just the slightest breeze.

Took a nap. Oh My Goodness!!! Why haven't I done that before.  I slept wonderfully until I got a phone call and was rudely awakened.  Now I know why people anchor out and sleep on the boats. wow.

All in all a nice quite day. Again the problem I had was getting off the boat.

Did have something unusual (for me at least) happen. When docking the boat there seemed to be quite a current running towards shore. I had to try three times to get in the slip even though there was no wind. Maybe the lake still going up?

Its been a long time since I have made it down to Monroe. We live in Indy area and it's just easier to boat one of the two smaller lakes around home.
Planning on heading down to monroe before the end of summer. I have forgotten is there a boat permit that is required to boat on monroe? And where is the best ramp to use if I am coming from Indy?

Thanks in advance for your help and feed back.

Hi and welcome to the Lake Monroe forum.  Yes you will need to purchase a launch permit, otherwise if you are on the water without one they will provide you with a large fine.  So t is much cheaper to buy the permit.  Being that you will be coming down 37, I would think it might be better for you to launch at Fourwinds ramp, or at the Dam.  I pefer the Fourwinds ramp, due to the ramp at the dam is way to steep.  Hope this answers your questions.

Get on Google maps and look for Paynetown SRA It's on the north side of the lake near the 446 causeway.  Even from Indy it's pretty easy to get to and is by far the best ramp on the lake. Nice and wide and easy to launch/recover from. (I've got a pontoon so wide ramps are important to me)

Paynetown is three lanes wide.

I'll be on the lake tomorrow. Fishing and napping mostly.  So if you see a big Manitou pontoon with double blue bimini's stop and say howdy.

I'll also be on the lake Saturday. Have a bunch of friends coming out to go tubing. We are normally on the cove across from allens creek (Kind of points Northwest) and tubing along that side of the lake between there and fourwinds. Stop and say howdy if you see us out.

Well it was another good weekend. Didn't catch any fish but had a great time tubing. The weather reports must have scared most of the folks off the lake as traffic was really light. Made it hard to get my riders off the tube. Grin  water was about 82 deg which was perfect but we had alsight breeze which made it just a wee bit chilly when we got back on the boat.

Hoping to get out this next weekend too. Swimming and tubing mostly.

Have a great time out on the water!
