Prime time at State Parks & Reservoirs

Whether you plan to camp, stay at a state park inn or drop in for a day, learn about activities at State Parks & Reservoirs.

Celebrate Independence
•   Enjoy fireworks at Pokagon (July 2, 10:15 p.m.); Raccoon SRA  (July 2 Beach Bash Celebration, karaoke and fireworks at dark); Versailles (July 2 at dark); Indiana Dunes (July 1, 9 p.m.) and Patoka Lake (July 2 at dark).
•   Go to Chain O’Lakes’ Patriot Day for tie-dyed t-shirts and a patriotic bicycle parade on July 2.
•   The Friends of Hardy Lake sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast ($6/adults and $3/children) on July 2, from 7-10 a.m. at the beach shelterhouse. Live birds of prey will be on display during breakfast.
•   Enjoy Spring Mill’s old-fashioned Independence Celebration in the Pioneer Village with games, activities and demonstrations for the whole family on July 3-4.

Enjoy sand, sun and fun (and a little winter)
•   Enter beach Cornhole tourneys at Pokagon (July 3, 1:30 p.m.) and Brookville Lake’s Mounds SRA (July 3), the Sand Sculpture Contest at Indiana Dunes (July 9 from 9 a.m.-1p.m.), and the 3-on-3 Volleyball Tourney at Lieber SRA (at pool if beach is flooded).
•   Celebrate Smokey Bear’s Birthday at Brookville-Whitewater on July 8, Lieber SRA on July 16, and Brown County on July 30.
•   Check out Winter in July at Potato Creek on July 16 with winter-themed crafts and winter “olympics” activities.
•   Celebrate with canine friends at Mansfield Roller Mill’s Dog Days of Summer on July 9-10 and Chain O’Lakes Dog Day at the Park on July 16.
Step back in time
•   Celebrate McCormick’s Creek’s 95th Birthday with activities all day on July 16, plus an evening concert by the Bloomington Community Band.
•   Make candles, play pioneer games, make toys and more at Turkey Run’s Pioneer Heritage Festival on July 16.
•   Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gus Grissom’s launch of Liberty Bell 7 at Spring Mill on July 21-23. Some events require tickets.
•   Tour Indiana Dunes’ historic Dunes Pavilion on July 23 at 7:30 p.m. and enjoy a spectacular sunset from the pavilion roof top.
•   Meet CCC Company 556 at the annual open house and reunion at Pokagon on July 31, 9 a.m.-noon.
Enjoy good music
•   “15th and Hulman” Band performs at Raccoon SRA’s  beach on July 3 from 5-8 p.m.
•   Chain O’Lakes hosts an evening of country music on July 16.
•   MC Axe and the Fire Crew, professional firefighters well known for their singing, will be at Brown County on July 30 at 8 p.m.
Send kids to day camps (advance registration required)
•   Naturalist Day Camp at Mounds, July 12-15 ($35/child)
•   Outdoor Survival Skills Day Camp at Monroe Lake, July 19-21 ($30/child)
•   Fishing Day Camp at Monroe Lake, July 26-28 ($30/child)
•   Wilderness Day Camp at Mounds, July 26-29 ($45/child)
