Lake Monroe bouncing back from flooding

BLOOMINGTON - Boaters, fishermen and campers are returning to Indiana's largest reservoir after record flooding last month closed roads and camp sites for weeks.

Spring storm swelled Lake Monroe near Bloomington to its highest-ever level in early May, going from its normal area of about 11,000 acres to more than 18,000 acres.

Camping resumed at the Paynetown Recreation Area before the Memorial Day weekend. Manager Rex Watters tells The Herald-Times that he can't predict when all its camp sites will be reopened as the lake continues to recede, but he is seeing many more happy faces from park visitors.

Rick Shedd says business has picked back up at the Fishin' Shedd bait and tackle store after what he called its worst May ever.
