For every year a boater, sailor or angler remains claims-free, the program automatically discounts the policy’s hull coverage deductible 25% at renewal, until it reaches $0. And once it reaches $0, it stays that way as long as you remain claims-free. (Kindly note that “named storm” deductibles, which apply to hurricane areas, are not included.)

Take a boating safety course free of charge and get a discount on your insurance premium: Most insurance companies offer a discount for completing a boating safety course, but finding one that fits your budget, schedule and that is located nearby can be hit or miss. Try taking the BoatUS Foundation’s free Online Boating Safety Course from the comfort of your own home. It allows you to start, stop and go back at any time, and it’s also recognized as boater certification in 31 states. BoatUS membership is not required. Try adjusting your boat insurance: Boats that have been owned and insured by one owner for a long period of time may want to consider reviewing and lowering the total value of your policy. Depending on your circumstances, you may even consider purchasing a liability-only insurance policy to save premium dollars.
