Ramps open, beaches closed at Lake Monroe
Just in time for the long weekend, Fairfax and Paynetown beaches on Lake Monroe are closed temporarily due to high water, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
There is no word yet if the beaches will stay closed through Memorial Day on Monday, but Jenny Shedd, co-owner of the Paynetown General Store in the campground area, said she didn’t imagine the lake would be going down any before the weekend.
“But the campgrounds and the boat ramps are all open,” Shedd said. “Unfortunately, when people hear the beaches are closed, they think everything is under water. Not so, there’s a lot going on here and will be for the weekend.”
