Can anyone give me some tips for striper fishing at Monroe?  From what I've read, there's not a huge population of the breed at Monroe and usually located near the dam or tailwaters.

Planning on trying the deeper water with live bait if I can find a bait shop that sells them.  (Need help with that too).

Artificial baits good?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as I know, the only place you can get live bait around the lake is The Fishin Shack which is on Highway 446 before you get to the causeway that goes over the lake.

I've caught big stripers in the north end of the lake where it gets really shallow outside of the channel that runs up to crooked creek launch.

Thanks Dave -

Did you catch them on artificial?  What types?

I've never been to that part of the lake.  Looks like I'll need to pack a cooler the the rods and go.

I caught two monster stripers on a big rapala crankbait and my buddy caught one on a big rubber minnow.

I hear that live minnows are excellent, but I don't use live bait much. I'm going out this weekend and hopefully can report something good later...
