Pleasure Craft Marina Scam

On Monday July 26, 2010 rented a 20 passenger "Party Toon" pontoon boat. The cost of the rental was $206.00 plus a $150.00 deposit. "Owen," the name of the employee working and on the contract, went through a pre-launch checklist of rules and regulations. After paying the rental I was then advised of rules that were not previously disclosed to me such as: You are not allowed to take the boat to "Allens Creek Cove" "Owen" advised that they do not allow the boats to go to that cove because the persons on the boat in the past become to intoxocated. We advised him that we have a designated boat operator. He then advised that as far as he is concerned that we paid for the boat and could take it anywhere we liked on the lake. Prior to advising us of each rule not previously disclosed he stated "I am going to ruin your day by telling you...." The company's contract states that no refunds can be provided for any reason including weather unless they can rent the boat for the same time and price to another person. We then went to Allens Creek Cove and parked the boat for the day using it as a swimming platform only.Upon return I watched as "Owen" placed $28.00 in fuel in the boat. "Owen" then added 1/2 quart of oil to the boat as well. The person at the registar advised that I owed 40.00 for fuel and oil and for the damaged prop on the rear of the boat. I advised her that the oil was an additional cost not advised to me and that we did not damage a prop. She then advised me to speak with "Owen." I then went to "Owen" who stated "Yea, you damaged the prop." He then turned around and ignored me. I asked him then to show me the prop. "Owen" then showed me the prop which had chip markes out of the metal blades. I advised "Owen" that we did not hit anything with the prop and that I had been a US Coast Guard Boat operator for five years and would know if I had hit anything. He then stated "Did you go to Allen's Creek Cove?" He then stated we are lucky because "you are only beign charged for two blades!" Which really insulted my intelligence! I then became upset as well as the other persons I was with. They advised us to pay and leave the property as it was private and they were calling the police. We were left with no choice but to pay and loose the entire 150.00 depost.

I rented a pontoon for my wife's family as a suprise for her 40th birthday last year and ran into the same problems. When they went to return the boat, they tried to charge them for a 1/2 tank of fuel and they only drove from 4winds to Allen's Creek. Fortunately, when they got there my brother in law said "This boat only has a 1/2 tank of fuel". I told him to take a picture of the gas guage with his phone. The picture was taken only 15 minutes after they picked up the boat. The Marina tried to stick them with filling the tank but since he had the pic on his phone...they only charged him for a 1/4 tank. 4winds has left a bad taste in alot of peoples mouth that I know. Raising slip rates every year and the shady way it seems they run their rentals...just a matter of time before word gets out and they lose even more business than they have already.

A group of us rent a pontoon every year and have for many years. Last year was our first encounter with Owen. He was very rude ,he acted like a jerk for no reason. We were never disrespectful in anyway even though he was a jerk. He went through the list of rules and regulations as someone does every year, which I understand it is mandatory, but we had to sit and listen to him tell us about what we should do if we were on the boat during a hurrican! Hmm....when was the last hurricane in Indiana? We laughed it off that day and again this year reserved a boat ,then it came time for the rules...here came Owen....never in my life have I come acrossed someone so rude and I work with the public! The marina should be ashamed to have such a person working for them! We will never return, and I will spread the word not to do business there!
