* HOW TO HANDLE THEM, WHO TO CONTACT Be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you are in danger or need
help, start calling for help immediately. Better safe than sorry. Wave towels or clothing at passing boaters to get their attention.

* If you see another boater in trouble, offer whatever assistance you can — but do not put either crew or boat in jeopardy. If you
cannot help the boat in distress, at least stand-by until assistance does arrive.

* If you see a flare, flag, or any other distress signal device do not just drive by or wave. Stop and ask if they need assistance.
Many people don't stop because they don't want to get involved. You don't necessarily have to get more involved than you are
comfortable with, but you can get their information and call assistance for them.
